INTRODUCING THE

GREATER MILWAUKEE SAMOYED FANCIERS, INC

The GREATER MILWAUKEE SAMOYED FANCIERS INC. was originally formed as the Winnebagoland Samoyed Fanciers in 1969 for the purpose of promoting the Samoyed and exchanging information as well as for fun gatherings of Samoyed fanciers. The name was changed at the American Kennel Club's request. The American Kennel Club recognized the GMSF  as a licensed Samoyed Specialty Club in 1971. We held our first licensed show at Waukesha in 1976. The interim was spent holding matches and earning recognition while also holding fun and educational events.
Today our major events are hosting two licensed shows per year. Our first show is held one the 5th weekend of the year. We alternate Saturday and Sunday shows with the Madison Samoyed Club which allows exhibitors to attend two major Samoyed shows in one week-end. It is one of the largest local Samoyed specialties in the country. Our second show is held on the Friday of the 30th week-end of the year at the Waukesha County Fairgrounds. We always host a delicious pot luck picnic at ringside following the completion of judging. One major event is our annual AKC Double Exposure Samoyed Specialty show which is held on the first Saturday in February in the Cow Palace at the Fond Du Lac County Fairgrounds. It is one of the largest local Samoyed Specialty shows in the nation.
GMSF is a working club which also takes time to enjoy a variety of activities and have a lot of fun. Besides the annual show, we have our annual awards by campfire at out annual camp-out where you may bring your children and dogs and enjoy camping in our beautiful Kettle Moraine area. We also have a wonderful Christmas Party hosted by various members. Other club activities include winter fun days with dog sleds and weight pulls, Sammy fun days (pot luck picnic with doggy games, fun for the whole family) educational seminars and programs on various subjects, hikes with our dogs, pool parties, handling classes, and movies presented at our regular meetings which are held on the first Saturday of each month. For meeting dates and times, information on the club or upcoming events contact Pat Backhaus.

SAMOYED CHARACTERISTICS

The Samoyed is alert, expressive, intelligent, full of action and displays affection for all mankind. Joy is shown by the sparkle in his eyes and the mouth curving upward at the corners forming the well-known "Sammy Smile" . Their intelligence can be a challenge to the owner. Love of mankind makes the Samoyed the perfect pet or show dog. A well-card-for Samoyed returns a large measure of love.

BEWARE OF FRAUD

The Samoyed is confused in some minds with the American Eskimo dog or Spitz. There is only ONE Samoyed breed, only one kind with a true working dog build and temperament. The tiny specimens of dog sometimes sold to the unwary as toy or "miniature Samoyeds" are not to be compared with the noble animal whose name they use. The Samoyed is not related to any other breed.
HE STANDS ALONE!

WHEN PURCHASING A PUPPY

Always contact a breeder who has been in Samoyeds for a time and is concerned about what he or she is doing to better and continue this breed. A list of members in good standing with the Greater Milwaukee Samoyed Fanciers, Inc. who adhere to a stringent Code of Ethics is available from any GMSF member.
