The GREATER
MILWAUKEE SAMOYED FANCIERS INC. was originally formed as the Winnebagoland
Samoyed Fanciers in 1969 for the purpose of promoting the
Samoyed and exchanging information as well as for fun gatherings of Samoyed
fanciers. The name was changed at the American Kennel Club's request. The American Kennel Club recognized the GMSF as a licensed Samoyed Specialty Club in 1971.
We held our first licensed show at Waukesha in 1976. The interim was spent
holding matches and earning recognition while also holding fun and
educational events. |

SAMOYED CHARACTERISTICS
|
The Samoyed is alert, expressive, intelligent, full of action and displays affection for all mankind. Joy is shown by the sparkle in his eyes and the mouth curving upward at the corners forming the well-known "Sammy Smile" . Their intelligence can be a challenge to the owner. Love of mankind makes the Samoyed the perfect pet or show dog. A well-card-for Samoyed returns a large measure of love. |
BEWARE OF FRAUD
|
The Samoyed is
confused in some minds with the American Eskimo dog or Spitz. There is
only ONE Samoyed breed, only one kind with a true working dog build and
temperament. The tiny specimens of dog sometimes sold to the unwary as toy
or "miniature Samoyeds" are not to be compared with the noble animal whose
name they use. The Samoyed is not related to any other breed. |
WHEN PURCHASING A PUPPY
|
Always contact a breeder who has been in Samoyeds for a time and is concerned about what he or she is doing to better and continue this breed. A list of members in good standing with the Greater Milwaukee Samoyed Fanciers, Inc. who adhere to a stringent Code of Ethics is available from any GMSF member. |
